Social Media Manager
CRITICAL REFLEX is an indie game publisher for the strange, the bold, and the genre-defiant. Our games punch through the noise: unsettling horror, surreal experiments, unhinged vibes that linger.
Mouthwashing, Buckshot Roulette, Arctic Eggs, Threshold, Lunacid and whatever makes you whisper “what the fuck” in awe.
We work hands-on with developers to bring bizarre visions to life, amplifying their voices. Our philosophy? Genre is a prison and we are the warden.
Role Overview
Critical Reflex is looking for a terminally online Social Media Manager to work on bold, strange, emotional, and occasionally unhinged indie games. We need a creative powerhouse who can natively navigate the chaos of internet culture, spot trends before they peak, and create the assets needed to elevate our brand and the indie games we publish.
You will work closely with brand managers, producers, developers, artists, and community teams to shape the voice of our games across platforms.
What you will do:
Create and manage social content for indie games across TikTok, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube Shorts, Discord, Reddit, Steam, and other relevant platforms.
Write copy for social posts, campaign beats, announcements, community updates, and platform-specific activations.
Create platform-native assets: memes, short-form videos, GIFs, and more.
Build and maintain content calendars for different projects, adapting tone, format, and messaging for each game and each platform.
Identify the unique tone of voice for the managed titles with the brand manager, and help ensure every post feels like it belongs to that game’s world, audience, and emotional core.
Work with gameplay clips, screenshots, trailers, GIFs, memes, creator content, dev materials, patch notes, and community moments to create assets that feel native to the platform.
Monitor gaming trends, platform trends, meme formats, indie game discourse, creator ecosystems, and player sentiment, turning that knowledge into practical content ideas.
Support community activations such as UGC contests, giveaways, fan art spotlights, meme challenges, Discord events, polls, community questions, and other engagement formats.
Help grow and engage communities around games at different stages of development and popularity.
Collaborate with brand managers and producers on campaign planning, launch beats, festival participation, demo drops, trailer releases, devlogs, Steam events, and major announcements.
Analyze performance across platforms and use data to improve future content: what gets shared, what gets ignored, what sparks comments, what drives wishlists, and what actually matters.
Maintain a high standard of taste.
What we expect:
3+ years of experience managing social media, in games, entertainment, creator economy, internet culture, media, or a similar field.
Strong written English at the Advanced (C1) level or higher. You can write naturally, sharply, and platform-appropriate while maintaining a consistent tone of voice.
Hands-on experience with several key platforms: TikTok, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube Shorts, Discord, Reddit, Steam, or similar social channels.
Understanding how social content differs across platforms
Broad gaming experience and a genuine understanding of indie games. You know what players care about, how game communities talk, and why some games become cult classics.
Deep understanding of internet culture, meme formats, gaming humor, fandom behavior, creator dynamics, and the difference between being funny and performing a funny social media manager at gunpoint.
Experience working with content calendars, campaign schedules, briefs, brand guidelines, and cross-functional feedback without losing creative energy.
Ability to work independently within your lane, propose ideas, prioritize tasks, and make decisions.
Understanding of performance metrics beyond the baseline engagement criteria.
Visual editing skills with tools such as Photoshop, Figma, Canva, Premiere, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, and similar tools. You do not need to be a motion designer, but you should be able to make clean, fast, social-native assets.
Being organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple projects or content streams simultaneously.
Benefits:
Fully remote (preferably based in or near a European timezone for smoother collaboration.
A supportive, non-toxic, and highly creative team environment.
The opportunity to work with some of the most exciting indie developers in the world.
28 paid vacation days per year plus bank holidays.
14 days’ sick leave per year, fully paid.
EAP via Spill.
Application process:
Include a short cover letter telling us about your relevant experience, the games and communities you’ve been a part of, and why this role feels like a perfect fit.
Provide links to your portfolio! We want to see social media accounts you've managed, campaigns you've run, and specific content/assets you have created yourself.
Optional bonus task: please create and upload an original meme that you think would work well on our Twitter account, based on one of the games published by CRITICAL REFLEX. This task is for evaluation purposes only: we will not publish, distribute, or use your submission on any official platform, but completing it will be considered a plus and can help us understand your humor, knowledge of our portfolio, understanding of each game’s tone, and ability to create platform-native content.
Note: After the interview and alignment on compensation expectations, selected candidates will be asked to complete a mandatory test assignment without the use of AI tools. We’re happy to provide feedback on the assignment upon request, including to candidates we do not move forward with
